Designed for any personnel who work in the care industry, who need to handle people. This course gives
the understanding of eliminating risk to client and handler.

Course aims
The ‘Moving and Transferring of Clients’ course is designed to give employees of any level in the caring
industry an appreciation of the fundamentals of good moving and handling practices.

With increasing legislation, employers have a statutory requirement to provide adequate training for their
employees under the Manual Handling Regulation 1992.

This course is ideal for refresher and induction training and covers the Care Standards and
TOPSS requirements.

Objectives
On completion of the course and examination the candidate will have an understanding of

The regulations which cover moving and transferring in the work place
Understand the duties and responsibilities of employers and employees
Describe the risks associated with bad handling techniques
Have an understanding of how to reduce or eliminate the risk of injury to client or handlers
Identify ways of using equipment provided effectively and efficiently
Using the risk assessment system and the practical methods to evaluate whether the task is
safe, practical and therefore viable.

Reducing the chance of injury using their understanding of the anatomy of the spine and muscle
groups involved in the moving and transferring of clients.
The importance of accident reporting procedures and there evaluation to reduce the chance
of reoccurrence.
An understanding of the importance of ergonomic design and its application in the workplace

Moving & transferring techniques

Candidates are required to demonstrate safe techniques with their colleagues to the satisfaction
of the trainer requirements.



Course Length

This course is run over a period of 4 hours. The timing and duration is flexible to your requirement.
